Please take the time to scroll through the Valom listings and check out the new, lower prices.

Yahooo! Looks like the last of the over-due orders shipped out on Friday and the decks are cleared. There are a few orders in today which will be dealt with on Monday and I am up to date.

Australia's Liberators is selling like hot cakes and I am having a bit of trouble keeping up with the demand - what a wonderful change, something is selling well!

Ed and I have been busy negotiating with several suppliers to bring you more interesting and unusual kits as well as some really neat airbrush accessories. Check the website over the next month or so for new products arriving in store.

Bad News Department
Australia Post will raise its postage charges on Monday 28 June 2010, in line with the increase in the CPI. Australia Post has received approval from the ACCC to raise their prices and made a rather tactless statement of self congratulation and joy on their website (http://auspost.com.au/about-us/Australia-Post-welcomes-ACCC-decision.html). Domestic letters will rise by $0.05 and all parcels within Australia by $0.25, while International Postage for parcels rises by by between $0.35 and $3.50, depending on the type, weight and destination of the article. Once again I remind customers that it is not our fault that postage charges rise - complain to Australia Post. Also, be aware that if you elect Air Mail postage to an overseas location there is no tracking service provided by Australia Post on standard Air Mail postage. If you want to track the progress of your parcel you must specify Express Post International and be prepared to pay significantly more for the service - usually between $5 - $25, depending on where your are located and the weight of the goods. Once again I stress that the Estimated Postage shown on our shopping cart is just that, an estimate, and not the final amount of the actual postage that you will be charged. We will only charge you the actual amount we are charged by Australia Post. Please don't email us asking how much the postage is on your order - we can only know that once we pack and invoice the order ready to ship.

Bad News Department 2 - Ian Huntley Dead

Verteran doyen of the aircraft camouflage and markings world, Ian Huntley, who wrote numerous articles exploring the subject in the British magazine Scale Aircraft Modelling, has sadly passed away. One of the last of those articulate Second World War chroniclers who combined their own carefully recorded observations with meticulous archival investigation to leave a rich legacy, he will be sadly missed by serious aircraft modellers the world over. It was Huntley's monthly column which actually motivated me to start my own research into RAAF C&M. Thank you Ian and happy modelling.

Ending on a Bright Note
I want to end on a bright note today; production work on our next book is well underway as it has entered the design phase and we hope to able to release it in October in Adelaide at the SA Model Expo. The book will cover the CA-15 and discuss its place in Australian aviation history.

Having spent the Queen's Birthday weekend trading at Model Expo 2010 we have now completed un-packing, stocktake, re-ordering, etc, and have managed to get the replacement work station on-line on Tuesday so we are back at work and today has been the first day spent on clearing outstanding orders. We intend to make further progress over the next few days and are hopeful that by mid-next week we will have caught up. There may be a few book orders that will probably linger towards the end of next week because we have to print and bind the books required - we have been almost cleaned out of all our books at Model Expo (except SCM which is the only pre-printed stock we hold, all the rest are demand printing).

Please be patient -  I know you are all wanting your orders delivered quickly and we will do our very best to achieve that
.

On behalf of Richard, Ed and myself I wish to say thank you to all our loyal customers who made the effort to stop by the stand at Model Expo 2010 to chew the fat and buy a few items -  you made the Model Expo worthwhile for us and it was great to catch up. It was a great surprise when Greg Meggs stopped by to say hello as we had not seen each other for 15 years!

The next show we are attending will be the SA Model Expo, held in October of this year and we are looking forward to visiting Adelaide and seeing all our South Australian friends.

Despite the issues caused by the dead work station which has crippled our billing, orders and accounting procedures, there are two new products released in time for Melbourne Model Expo. These are the 1/72 scale Lincoln Engines without flame dampened exhausts (look here) and the long awaited 1/48 Scale CAC CA-9 Wirraway Mk II Detail Set which will correct the issues present in the Special Hobby Wirraway kit (look here).

We look forward to seeing all out Melbourne based customers at Model Expo 2010 at the Sandown Convention Centre, Sandown Racetrack, next weekend (Queen's Brithday long weekend).

Please be aware that we are severely restricted in our order processing at the moment because of the issues outlined on 4 June 2010 (below). It is likely that this situation will continue at least until after Expo. I anticipate that it may well be at least 2 weeks before everything is back to normal.

I am very sorry to be in this position and have to advise our customers that we have suffered a major equipment failure and as a result of this we will be unable to process any orders for a number of days. Unfortunately our accounting work station suffered a catestrophic mother board failure this morning. Because the computer is almost 10 years old we cannot simply replace the failed components but rather we have to totally replace the machine. None of our computers are stock standard; they are all built for a specific task in a specific configuration and our IT contractor has already begun sourcing componants with which to build the new computer next week. Once it is delivered in a 'bare bones' configuration it is up to me to install and configure the software required to begin working again - a process that will take several days. This has come at a really bad time, with Expo just around the corner and a number of orders still remaining from last week, so it is likely that we may not be able to process any orders until after the Melbourne Expo. Rest assured that everybody is doing their best to overcome the problem as quickly as possible.

We will be trading at Melbourne Expo as usual, so we look forward to seeing you all there.

I have just returned from Canebrra and Scale ACT '10. What a great show it was too! Both Richard and myself were very pleased to catch up with many of our ACT/NSW customers at the show. Thank you for popping around to the stand to say g'day and for the many fine purchases made as well. Australia's Liberators and the 1/48 scale Wirraway detail set proved so popular that they sold out pretty early in the show. Melbourne modellers get their chane to bag these beauties in a couple of weeks at the Model Expo on the Queen's Birthday long weekend. Oh well, back to work now and I hope to have caught up with all the outstanding orders by the start of next week. Bye for now....

Red Roo Models will be closed for a few days while we attend Scale ACT ’10 in Canberra on the weekend of 22-23 May 2010. Prior to this Richard and myself will be undertaking research at National Archives of Australia. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused by this small delay – I am a ‘one man band’ and can’t be in two places at once. Rest assured that both my business associates have been drafted in to assist with any backlog after the model show.
I am currently making and effort to have all current orders in the mail by Friday 14 May 2010. Any orders received after that date until we re-open for business will be logged and processed on my return to Melbourne after the show. Richard and I look forward to seeing all our Canberra and Sydney districts customers at Scale ACT ’10.

Slowly everything is returning to normal and most orders should be dealt with quickcly. There are a few outstanding backorders caused by slow delivery from manufacturers. Also, Australia's Liberators has proved far more popular than anticipated and we are constantly fighting to keep up production to fill the orders so please rest assured that if your order for this book has yet to be filled it is not far away.

Sadly my elderly Mother passed away this morning and as a result the operation of Red Roo may be bit disjointed and slow over the next few days. Please be aware that I am trying to get orders processed and backorders dealt with as quickly as possible and your items off to you in the mail. I will try to avoid a backlog of orders building up. Please exercise patience and accept my sincere apologies for any delays.

We are very proud to announce our new book, written by renowned author Charles Darby, entitled Australia's Liberators.
The full history of the B-24 Liberator in RAAF service; beginning with the seconded USAAF squadrons, the formation of  7OTU, the Liberator squadrons, the secret ECM and EW squadrons and Section 22. Some 224 printed pages, many photos not previously published, colour profiles and packed full of historical data and fact. This is the first time the role of the RAAF's electronic surveillance and warfare Liberators has been examined in detail, with every piece of equipment having been personally restored by the author and photographed for the book. Enthusiasts and modellers alike will find a wealth of invaluable information within this book. All of this at an excellent price of only $35! Check out the details here.

Ian K. Baker's AHCB68 & AHCB69 are now in stock.

Check out these two new issues of the popular Aviation History Colouring Book here (ACHB68) and here (AHCB69).

New Resin from Red Roo (and the Return of an old Friend).
We have just released our new 1/48 scale Spitfire Mk VIII/IX/XVI Exhausts (go here). These neat little accessories are designed to be universal and fit most of the popular late  Spitfire kits around today (eg Tamiya, ICM), including the Aeroclub replacement fursaleg for the Hasegawa mk VIII/IX kits.

Lastly, our Douglas 'Buddy' Fuel Pod is back in stock, finally...at last, phew! Any long-outstanding back orders will be dealth with over the nex week or so.

As a result of the efforts of our Czech agents we have secured what we believe is the last shipment of Tally Ho decals for the foreseable future. Albeit in small numbers, these decals have been added to the website on Friday. In most cases there are two or three copies of these sheets available for purchase. If you are looking for Tally Ho decals act now because they will not last very long. If the decals are not displaid on the website we do not have them. If you still manage to retrieve the decal information from the data bas using the search function they will be marked as sold out and have a price of $0.00 - this means they are no longer available.

After a lengthy wait I am pleased to announce that the popular C-47/DC-3 Nose Job for the ESCI kit is back in stock. The return was delayed by casting issues which took a bit of time to resolve. Check it our here.

We have also introduced two new accessory items for the 1/72 scale P-51 Mustang devotee: the Aeroproducts propeller blades (look here) and the Hamilton Standard 'cuffed' blades (look here). Both these sets are designed to be a universal type accessory for any 1/72 scale P-51 Mustang kit.

Our next major book project has gone to print and we anticipate being able to release it for sale by the start of next month - what is the title? Well, sorry you'll have to wait a couple more weeks for the big announcement - but we promise you will not be disappointed.

Overnight our website packed up its tent and migrated to a new server. The move was necessary because the site had outgrown the old server and problems with the pages loading and with navigation were starting to manifest. As is normal after a major shift like this, it will take several days for the new address to propagate throughout the Internet. As a result some people may experience some minor difficulties with viewing the site or using the shopping cart especially. If you experience any problems logging on and sniffing around the site please let us know because all of the re-direction tags are in place on all of our domain names to reduce any issues. So far today only one customer has experienced a problem with the shopping cart which we were able to fix quickly - so we think that's a pretty good result for a major shift.

Finally, we have confirmed our attendance at the Scale ACT '10 Expo in Canberra at the end of May and also at the Model Expo in Melbourne in June of this year.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the arrival of a New Zealand company on the scene here in Oz. JAYS Models recently acquired the Ventura range of plastic kits and have been working to improve them, firstly, by upgrading the plastic used in the production of these short run injection moulded kits. Other improvements are planned for the future. These kits are moderately priced and will provide real value for money.

JAYS Model kits are designed for the experienced modeller and require just that little bit of extra care and attention lavished upon them to create a beautiful model. If you are into spending some quality time creating your next modelling masterpiece take a look at JAYS Model Kits here.

Due to circumstances beyond our control it appears that we will be unable to supply much of the Tally Ho Decals range previously advertised. We are hoping that this will only be a temporary situation, but, so far all attempts to contact the management of Tally Ho Decals by ourselves and our agents in the Czech Republic have been unsuccessful. Consequently we have taken the decision to only advertise those Tally Ho decal sheets we currently have in stock. Over the next week or so we will be emailing all customers who have Tally Ho decals on backorder to advise them of this situation.

Customers should note that as we sell out of Tally Ho decal sheets they will be removed from the website - so please don't phone us to ask if we have it in stock - if it is not displayed on the website we don't have it.

Well, the New Year is off to a flying start with the release of two new accessoires in 1/72 scale for P-51 Mustang devotees. Check out our new P-51K Aeroproducts prop blades here and our new P-51D Hamilton Standard 'cuffed' prop blades here. Both these new items are quite moderately priced and that combined with their high quality will make them winners for all who are building Mustangs in 1/72 scale.

It is hard to comprehend that another year has almost run its course. This year has been one of expansion for us and has seen the commencement of a new import/export venture. In partnership with our friends Petr, Radoslav and Radek at CMR, we are looking forward to exciting times as we bring the best of Europe to Australian modellers (see 22 December 2009 entry) as well as exporting the best of Australia to Europe. Our major publishing venture for this year, Southern Cross Mustangs, has entered the market and is performing extremely well. There are a number of significant projects on the drawing board, in planning and preparation for 2010, so we think it will also be a great year for Aussie modellers. So in summary, a really big "thank you" to all our loyal customers, supporters, suppliers and great modelling mates in Australia and around the world.

On behalf of all the team at Red Roo, Tony Miller, Richard Hourigan, Ed Russell, David Muir, David Clark, Paul Gloster, David Constable, Fred Harris, Don Halls, Mitzi Pudelle II and myself I would like to wish all our supporters, customers and many, many good friends all the very best for the holiday season. I sincerely hope that 2010 will bring good health, happiness and lots of plastic for great modelling projects, to us all.

Business hours for the holidays:

Red Roo Models will be closed from 0900 24 December 2009 to 0900 5 January 2010
.

Orders may be placed as usual via the secure order form on this webiste but nothing will be actioned prior to 5 January 2010.

It is with great pleasure that Red Roo Models announces the arrival of  new and exciting product ranges from the most significant publishers and manufacturers located in the Czech Republic. Over the last few years we have formed a business alliance with Czechmaster Resin which has seen this excellent brand become more widely available in Australia. Now, with CMR acting as our agents in Europe, we are able to bring more outstanding product lines to Australia. From today we can offer kits from AZ Models, Legato, Valom and AML; books from REVI, Mark 1/4+ Publications and WWP; decals from REVI and Tally Ho. We are also introducing a new and expanding range of resin detail sets named Resin Art which will create strong interest.

Many of the decals and kits have an Australian connection as well as representing great value for money. Check out all the new products on offer. We will treat these products in the same manner as the outstanding CMR kits, that is, we will hold limited stocks of the most popular items for immediate delivery and sale at shows around Australia. The remainder will be ordered as orders are received for delivery within 1 month (please note we will only act on firm orders). Our aim is to offer these items at reasonable prices so that modellers can gain the most from their investment.

You will notice some changes going on here at the website, in order to successfully handle the increase in products. For example, there are now 13 book pages, arrangerd by title. It may be necessary to search for a particular title so you can place an order.

In 2010 we will be introducing some highly detailed and unique conversions for those who are interested in accurately portraying RAAF aircraft - more on that in the New Year (sorry). New decal sheets in The Away Team series are in production. We are also planning the return of one of the most popular 1/72 scale conversions we have every produced in 2010 (the PB2B-2 conversion). There are also several new books due for release next year as well, so all in all 2010 is shaping up to be a big year.

In the next few days the website is being moved to a bigger and faster server to incorporate the changes and allow for faster loading when customers browse the site. There should be no interruption to normal service.

We have just re-introduced our very popular 1/72 and 1/48 scale P-40 Kittyhawk sheets featuring late-war Kittyhawks in the SWPA. Check out our decal pages.

I am also pleased to report that the introduction of our new equipment went extremely smoothly. Contrary to what was expected there were only two minor snags encountered during the entire process. This major upgrade will enure that Red Roo is able to continue to bring the best possible range of products to our customers for the next five years at least.

Red Roo Models will be closed for 9-10 Nov 2009 inclusive due to a major equipment upgrade which will occur on those dates. It is anticipated that the installation and training will be completed in time to re-open for business on 11 Nov 2009. Such upgrades are a fact of life every 4-5 years and as we want to continue to bring the best possible products to our customers we feel the inconvenience of being out of action for a couple of days is well worth the benefits derived from the successful installation of new technology and equipment.

Well, back from Adelaide where the SA Model Expo was most enjoyable. A very big thank you to all our customers who stopped by to chat in Adelaide. The entire Red Roo team was present and both David Muir (author of SCM) and David Clark (editor of SCM) attended and David Muir gave two presentations on Mustang camouflage and markings as well as signing copies of the book.

Please be patient as there is a significant backlog of orders and other correspondence requiring attention. I will get through all the orders as quickly as I can and I hope to be back on track by mid next week.

Southern Cross Mustangs - Hard Cover Edition

As a result of inadequate packaging when SCM was delivered to Red Roo a significant number of books were damaged to the point where they could not be sold. The situation was rescued by having the books converted to hard cover binding and these are now available for sale. This edition is strictly limited and a higher premium exists due to the hard cover binding. There will be no reprints and once sold out that's it folks! We have decided to make this edition available through two specially selected re-sellers here in Australia. The higher cost of this edition has partly been set to keep faith with our valued customers who have bought soft cover versions. Check out the book here.

It's that time of year again and we will be packing up the shop and driving across to Adelaide for the 2009 SA Model Expo. Richard and I are going over a couple of days earlier this year to undertake some research and photograph some aircraft for future product development.

Red Roo Models will be closed as of 0900hr on 20 October 2009 and will re-open for business on 28 Oct 2009. Orders may be placed via the website secure shopping cart as normal but, they will not be processed before 28 October 2009.

Please be patient as upon my return I will need a few days to re-stock and sort out the backlog or orders.

We look forward to seeing all our modelling mates in Adelaide. The entire team will be in Adelaide this year; Ed will be there and so will David Muir (author of Southern Cross Mustangs, signing copies and making two presentations on RAAF Mustangs). Dave Clark (editor of SCM and author of the forthcoming CA-15 book) will also be attending. Stop by the stand and say g'day.

Cheers,

Gary

The first Red Roo resin kit has just been released - in both 1/72 and 1/48 scales. The RFD Winged Target was one of the more unsual pieces of RAAF equipment. However, if was one of the most vital because it provided fighter pilots with the opportunity to practice their air to air gunnery. This simple kit provides the modeller with a quick and satisfying build resulting in a unique model. Check out the kit here.

Three new 1/72 scale resin kits from CMR have arrived in store. These are CMR205, CMR206 and CMR207, which cover Swiss Air Force DH Venoms. The latter two kits can be built as either the standard or PR versions, with the famouse 'Pinocchio Nose' fitment for the cameras. All kits feature photo-etched brass, decals and paint masks and, of course, all are of the usual high standard associated with CMR. Why not check them out right now.

Well, it's finally happened...no, we have not won the lottery, but almost the next best thing -  we proudly introduce our first resin kit. The RFD Winged Target, in 1/48 scale (go here) and 1/72 scale (go here). This is a multimedia kit suitable for experienced modellers. It is also a great starting point on the fascinating journey through the genre of resin kits. A small and easy to assemble kit that will provide a very unique model for your collection. Yes, it is packed in a fairly big box, the size of which is dictated by the instruction sheet, but it is packed very securely with foam packing beads to prevent damage during transit. The masters were created by Richard Hourigan who heads up our R & D Dept.

It's been a while since I updated the Roo News page and I do apologise for that. The lack of news has not been for any other reason than that the team has been exceptionally busy. The annual trek up to Canberra for Scale ACT 09 was rewarding and there was a super turnout at the expo. Melbourne Expo 2009 was also excellent. Sales of Southern Cross Mustangs are booming, so make sure you get yours as soon as you can. Finally, Red Roo's home has been undergoing extensive renovations over the last three months to make sure there is plenty of room for an exciting new venture that will kick off in the very near future.

Ed Russell Joins Red Roo Models

Well known Melbourne based modeller Ed Russell has joined the team at Red Roo Models as a partner in our new venture and assumed the mantle of Import/Export Manager. Ed will be taking a pro-active roll in that side of the business and we are very confident that Australian modellers will be quite pleased with the result. Ed's first task is to represent Red Roo Models at the E-Day Model Expo in Prague (Czech Republic) in September. More on this exciting new venture soon.

New From Red Roo Dept
Just released are two new conversions, in 1/48 and 1/72 scale, covering RAAF Target Towing Mustangs. These easy conversions feature a mix of resin, decals and photo-etched brass which enables the modeller to build one of five RAAF TT Mustangs. For the 1/72 scale details go here and for the 1/48 scale details look here.

Also new this month are a some neat and easy to use accessories that allow modellers to add a ferry pack to their RAAF Mustang model. The P-51D Ferry Pack accessory is available in both 1/72 and 1/48 scale. Because the main manufacturers of P-51D Mustang kits have tackled the aircraft canopy using different designs we have crafted a separate accessory for both Hasegawa and Tamiya P-51D Mustangs in both scales.
For the 1/48 scale version for the Tamiya kit - look here.
For the 1/48 scale version for the Hasegawa kit - look here.
For the 1/72 scale version for the Tamiya kit - look here.
For the 1/72 scale version for the Hasegawa kit - look here.

Don't forget that Scale ACT '09 is fast approaching. Red Roo Models will be there and we look forward to seeing all our good friends in Canberra. The model expo will be held at the Harmonie German Club (see ACT Scale Modellers' Society website for venue details ). Consequently we will be closed for business from 1200 hr Weds 13 May 2009 to allow for pre-pack and travel to attend National Archives of Australia for research prior to the model expo. We will re-open for business from 0900 hr 26 May 2009. Orders may be placed via the website secure shopping cart as normal but they will not be actioned prior to our re-opening.

Remember to enter your CMR models in the new "Best CMR Model in Show" category which is jointly sponsored by CMR and Red Roo Models.

The long and eagerly awaited release of Southern Cross Mustangs is near. Red Roo Models is delighted to announce that Scale ACT ’09 will be the occasion of the launch in ACT and NSW of the much awaited book Southern Cross Mustangs by well known Sydney-based master modeller Dave Muir. This book, Red Roo’s largest publishing project to date, examines the camouflage and markings of all RAAF and RNZAF Mustangs during their service lives. It is the product of over a decade of research and, to complement the release of the book at Scale ACT ’09, Dave Muir will give two presentations, and will personally sign copies of the book at the Red Roo stand at the show. First Presentation and launch: Saturday 13:00-14:00 and second presentation: Sunday 11:00-12:00. Check out Southern Cross Mustangs here.

Note: The special pre-publication price offer for Southern Cross Mustangs is now closed. Further orders will now be taken and actioned from 23 May 2009 onwards at the normal retail price.

I have been advised by the Australian distributor for Harder and Steenbeck airbrushes that there have been attempts made by individuals to obtain warranty and service support from the Australian distributor for H&S products purchased outside Australia. Therefore, the Australian distributor has advised me that such service and support extends only to units purchased in Australia and that as of today I am required to verify purchase from Red Roo Models when submitting any units for warranty claims or service support. Proof of purchase from Red Roo Models will be required in order to be certfied when returning equipment to the distributor.
